After a busy year so far I’ve made the conscious decision to cut back on work in my free time. Not totally cut it out, but enough to give me time to concentrate on other things too. One of those things being what I’m writing about now. Learning.

Learning never exhausts the mind. – Leonardo da Vinci

I’ve always wanted to learn more about web languages. I have numerous books and PDFs on different languages from php, C, to javascript and your basic HTML. Already having a good understanding of HTML / CSS I asked about my developer friends to get an insight of what would be most useful for me to learn. The outcome was quite unanimous really … Javascript.

So I set about looking where to start, I started reading and watching tutorials but nothing was going in – I was hitting brick walls from the start. That said, I’ve never been one to learn from a text book, I’d much rather be hands on so to speak.

Then, via Twitter I came across Codecademy. A fantastic, step-by-step, interactive way to learn to code absolutely free.

So far I’m 30% through my Javascript course and all seems to be going well. I’ve coded my first small game  and I feel the knowledge is slowly but surely going in.

So all in all, I’d highly recommend Codecademy if you’re wanting to learn a new programming language. I will write further posts as I advance.
